The week between Christmas and New Year's always seems to be the time things finally slow down enough for me to catch up on my website, and this year is no different. A day in the life of a candy business owner-Halloween edition

Which part is most satisfying to you? The pour or the torch?

I can't decide which is more satisfying...a perfect lollipop pour or the way the torch clears the cloudiness away.

Sometimes the easiest part in the candy making and packaging process is also the hardest part 😆

Love is sweet — and so is this moment. It’s not often that newlyweds get a chance to enjoy their cotton candy during the whirlwind of their big day, but this beautiful couple made it happen! These newlyweds made sure to sneak away for a sweet moment (and a little fluff of happiness). I always try and make a few extra cotton candy boxes for couples to enjoy after the party just in case.

We are always the sweetest people around after we've been spinning cotton candy for a few hours, and every other person has to let us know we have a bit of cotton candy in our hair 😆 @hilldalemadison

Get ready with us while we set up for the last Sun Prairie Market of the season! This time of year is so hard because not only is it freezing out but it's dark as night when we start setting up.

Why am I like this? My fingers are made of butter.

It's not often Lily gets to help at the kitchen, but she has off this week so she was put to work today helping with some things. Naturally though, she spent the majority of the time making and eating cotton candy creations.

It's so satisfying to watch them sink into the still fluid hot candy mixture. It's always a race to get the lollipop sticks in before they cool down too much and the candy hardens, and you wouldn't believe how many times over the years I have gotten distracted or zoned out and completely forgot to put them in 😜

We recently got a 3d printer so Lily has been making all sorts of gadgets that help with candy making 😜

Trying out a new natural blue. What do you think of the color? Natural blues and greens are always the hardest colors to use in candy making because they are so sensitive to heat, light, PH, Mercury in retrograde, the level of the tide at the moment of mixing...😫

Sometimes the cotton candy just kind of floats on top instead of spinning off and we try and see how thick we can make it before it collapses 😆 It reminds me of a funnel web

Halloween Labubu! I am loving the party ideas I've been seeing come through in lollipop orders lately, but my favorite might be popular characters that are in Halloween costumes!

Making some out of this world lollipops this morning! It's the sparkly black background for me. 🛸👽😍

My favorite part of doing custom lollipop orders where I'm not familiar with the characters is when I ask my kids for help because I don't know who any of them are and they remind me that I'm old 😜. These are (apparently) for a Demon Slayer themed party.

One of the perks of working in a shared kitchen is that I always have taste testers when trying out something weird 😜 I was testing out a Sweet and Nicely Hot cotton candy inspired by the top selling mustard flavor at the @nationalmustardmuseum and I really have to say it's one of my favorites! It has lots of fruit flavor and a little bit of heat at the end. I would love it to have an even spicier punch to it but I know my customer base lol

🎆 Happy Fourth of July! I have always loved fireworks, but I think I may love drone shows even more! What an awesome show we had last night at the @westmorlandneighborhood Summer Nights Event while spinning cotton candy! The cotton candy line was never ending and we thank everyone who took the time to wait!

We got to check out the coolest new kids event space in Waunakee, @chillzoneroom ! @friosmadison hosted a sneak peak night before their grand opening this Saturday (definitely check it out!) and the kids loved it! I was blown away by the work and dedication of 15 year old Kimaya Soin who put together and hosted the fundraising event we were a part of last night. She organized the event, "The Emerald Benefit: Advancing Celiac Research,” to support the Celiac Disease Foundation, and it was a truly amazing and inspiring event with guest speakers and silent auction. Her parents Manny and Madhu at Middleton Jewelers must be incredibly proud of her!

What a fun and exciting day! We were sponsors at the Run Madtown 5k this weekend and I ran it with my youngest kiddo and my husband! My 9 year old and I set a goal to run the whole thing without stopping and have been training for it and we did it! Nothing beats the excitement of meeting your goals and this little guy was excited! Naturally I went straight from running to making cotton candy so Lily could take a quick break 😜 Also, way to go all the kids from the @madisonwaldorfschool Running Club who ran and finished! @runmadtown

So many amazing artists! We're at the Middleton art Walk today until 5 :00 and there are some really amazing art pieces of all kinds, kid activities, face painting and balloon making, live art demonstrations, so much great food, and of course, great beer at Capital brewery.

The frustration of messing up a batch of lollipops! The one on the right didn't reach the correct temps and so that batch turned out cloudy and will have to be redone. The one on the left (Kissy Missy) shows the clarity that's expected when using white sugar. The correct temps, amount of mixing, and amount or type of added flavor oil all impact how they end up looking.

My kids have been obsessed with the video game Poppy Playtime for years and have asked me over and over to make some lollipops with the characters. We had the best Saturday this weekend starting with a sister/cousin cake candle making workshop at @loveucandle (HIGHLY recommend!) followed by lunch at @mad_rabbit_cafe . After that we headed out for an adults only afternoon shopping for fancy dresses at @pinkpoodlemadison for the upcoming @madisonwaldorfschool Planting Seeds of Joy Gala and Auction, then starting the night with a stop at @nitro_lounge for some show stopping cocktails, and finishing off with a Dropkick Murphys concert at @thesylvee

@lifeatepic family movie night is tonight and it's Lord of the Rings and I realized I had never made LOTR lollipops, so you know I had to make some! I think this is definitely one of my favorite themes for the cotton candy cart and lollipops. I love the colors! It's so much fun coming up with new exciting ideas for the Wedding Show we do every year, and even more fun bringing ideas to life for real weddings!

Day two of the @wedplanmadison Winter Wedding Show! Slower than yesterday but we've met so many great wedding couples!

A year ago today I shared my most viewed reel of 2023, which prompted a huge response with hundreds of comments and so many haters! My response to a comment I saw a lot ended up being my most viewed video of 2024 😵‍💫 and really made me realize how little people know about how things are priced. Still can't believe over a million people saw this video!

2024 is over and done, and what a year it was! Looking forward to making many more memories and adventures in 2025!
